Welcome

Welcome to the Yellow Woods Challenge – the simple, educational and fun environmental campaign for schools run by Yellow Pages, working with the Woodland Trust and local authorities across the UK.

Simple

Schoolchildren simply recycle old Yellow Pages directories

Educational

The Teacher's Toolkit and this website help bring recycling and conservation to life in the classroom

Fun!Schools have fun competing for cash prizes and getting to know the campaign mascot, Kirk

Schools that recycle the most directories per pupil win cash prizes and for every pound Yellow Pages awards to schools, it gives a matching pound to the Woodland Trust.

Around £85,000 will be given to schools in 2008 and an equal amount to the Woodland Trust to support its 'Tree For All' campaign.

Schools first compete locally and then enter the UK Awards where thousands of pounds are awarded for directory recycling, community and educational engagement and for buidling artwork.

The Yellow Woods Challenge started in 2002 and since then has doubled in size. This year it aims to attract around 100 local authorities, 2,500 schools and 500,000 schoolchildren.

To take part, schools must be registered with a participating local authority (Loads doc file (105K) in a new browser window).
