The Big Yellow Pages Art Competition is a fun and optional element of the Challenge. It is open to all schools taking part in the Yellow Woods Challenge 2008 and those schools that took part in last year's Challenge.
The aim is to create artworks out of whole old Yellow Pages directories or directory covers, using minimal props.
“The good thing about this project is the whole school became involved in collecting, creating and sculpting artwork out of recycled materials,” said Mr Adrian Vye, headteacher at St Michael’s Church of England Primary School, South Gloucestershire - winner of the 2005 competition.
“The competition helps children to work together as a team with a common aim,” said Mr Geoff Brown, headteacher at St Merryn School, Cornwall – winner of the 2004 competition. “It is a nice way to introduce 3D artwork into the curriculum, which can be quite hard to do otherwise.”
