Big Yellow Pages Art Competition

2006 winners

In 2006, we introduced two new and exciting elements to the Yellow Pages UK Sculpture Competition: cash prizes for all winners and online voting by the public.

As in previous years, we invited schools to create artistic sculptures using the old Yellow Pages directories they had collected for recycling during their local Yellow Woods Challenge plus minimal props. Schools entered the competition by sending in a photograph of their artwork.

Schools competed to win the top cash prize of £1,000 from Yellow Pages, plus runners-up prizes of £750 and £500.

This year we received the highest number of entries in the history of this popular competition. Schools from across the UK delighted the judges with a fantastic range of creative sculptures.

Neil BuchananNeil Buchanan, presenter of CiTV’s Art Attack, had the hard job of choosing just six finalists to go head to head in an online public vote on this website, where anyone could vote for their favourite sculptures during a two week period. Voting closed at midnight on 26 November 2006.

The winners of the 2006 Yellow Pages UK Sculpture Competition, as chosen by the first ever Yellow Woods Challenge online public vote, are:

1st prize £1,000
Downhill Skier - created by Sedgefield Hardwick Primary School in Sedgefield, County Durham

2nd prize £750
Submarine - created by Greystone Community Primary School in Ripon, North Yorkshire

3rd prize £500
Tree of Good Hope - created by Clapham Terrace Community Primary School and Nursery in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire

For every pound awarded to the winning schools in the UK Sculpture Competition 2006, Yellow Pages has given a matching pound to the Woodland Trust to support their ‘Tree For All’ campaign.

Congratulations go to Byers Green Primary School in Spennymoor; Milton Junior School in Newport and Earlham Primary School in Forest Gate, London, who made it through to the last six and the public vote.

For the chance to win £1,000 for your school in next year’s Yellow Pages UK Sculpture Competition, please enter the 2007 competition – the deadline for entries is Friday 5 October 2007.
