Rules for 2008
2. Eligibility. The Competition is open to all schools participating in the YWC09.
It is also open to schools in local authority areas that previously participated in the YWC, but have since stopped running the YWC to concentrate on kerbside recycling initiatives (supplementary conditions apply – see 4.2)
This Competition is independent of any local art competitions organised by the local authority and/or its agents.
3. Entry. To enter the Competition, schools must complete The Big Yellow Pages Art Competition 2009 entry form, found in the Teacher’s Toolkit or on www.yellow-woods.co.uk, and submit a colour photograph of their Yellow Pages artwork.
By submitting photographs entrants agree to grant Yell and its affiliates, the Woodland Trust and other YWC parties, a perpetual, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to publish and otherwise use the photograph in any way and in any media worldwide. Photographs will not be returned.
4. Materials.
4.1 Schools taking part in YWC09 must create their artwork from either (i) whole, old Yellow Pages directories or (ii) the front covers from old Yellow Pages directories; depending on how they are recycled in the local YWC.
4.2 Schools in areas where YWC has ceased to run must only create their artwork from the old covers of Yellow Pages directories. The rest of the old directory must be recycled in the kerbside collections at home.
Other props may be used, but all artworks must be easy to dismantle for collection and/or recycling.
5. Multiple Entries. Schools may enter more than one creation, but each submission must be accompanied by a fully completed application form. A school may only win one YWC UK Finals prize (including this Competition, the UK Merit Awards, the Most Improved School in the UK and the UK Recycling Awards).
6. Closing date. Entries must be received by Yell no later than 1700hrs Monday 5 October 2009. Entries can be sent by post, using the entry form contained within the Teacher’s Toolkit 2009, to: Public Relations, Yell, FREEPOST (SCE 7237), Reading, RG1 7ZJ or sent online, using the online entry form at www.yellow-woods.co.uk. Proof of postage or transmission will not be accepted as proof of receipt. Yell does not accept any liability for lost or damaged entries or for any corruption to entries sent electronically.
7. Judging. Each entry will be assessed on its individual merits by a YWC judging panel that will look for adherence to health and safety guidance (found in the ‘Teacher’s Toolkit’ and on www.yellow-woods.co.uk) as well as recyclability, creativity, originality and WOW factor. The YWC judges will select a maximum of twelve entries for the ‘celebrity’ round of judging. They also reserve the right to select no entries or fewer than twelve for the celebrity round.
The celebrity judge will be asked to choose a maximum of six finalists for the final round of judging. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
The final round of judging will take place via an online public vote run over two weeks in late 2009.
8. Prizes. The winning entry will receive from Yell a cheque of £1,000 for their school. Two runners-up will receive £750 and £500 respectively. All competition entrants will receive a Competition certificate.
9. Publicity. Finalists and winners are expected to participate in publicity organised by Yell, its agents and the Woodland Trust. Photography including children will require parental/guardian’s permission for reproduction in all media.
10. Charity. The Woodland Trust (Registered Charity Number 294344) will receive £2,250 from Yell as match funding for the prizes awarded to schools. The money will be used towards the Trust’s ‘Tree For All’ campaign.
11. Data about schools and individuals held on computer by Yell, its agents directly involved in the YWC, or the Woodland Trust will be used for issuing materials, monitoring results and to identify schools for possible educational research and public relations activity. All partners undertake that they have obtained where necessary, and will maintain, where necessary, in full force and effect, all registrations under the Data Protection Act l998 ('the DPA') necessary to enable it to provide the Services and will comply with all applicable provisions of the DPA.
